Industrywide digital camera shipments in 2006 rose 14.5 percent to 106 million units from a year earlier, driven by the strong popularity of single-lens reflex (DSLR) models geared for photo enthusiasts and professionals and growing demand in emerging markets, IDC said.
And on Google AdWords, if you were to run an ad for the keyword phrase “digital photography”, they currently estimate you’d get 2,364 - 2,465 potential clicks per day at the maximum click cost. (5/22/08)
So the experts expected digital camera sales to be 42 million units in 2005, yet that was far surpassed by 2004. The new estimate of 82 million units sold by 2008 was again blown out of the water… this time TWO years early.
