Playing With Something New…
This isn’t technically affiliate marketing related, but it has it’s purpose and I’m having fun so I decided to share
The past couple of days I’ve found myself playing with some new stuff. Namely, I’m trying out a technique known as ink blogging.
Ink blogging is simply the process of blogging in handwritten text instead of typed. There are a few ways to do it and not all of them are quick or simple, but they’re still fun… particularly if you enjoy writing things by hand.
Now one of the essential tools of course, is the ability to write by hand on your computer. I have a Tablet PC for instance - or more correctly: A convertible Notebook. This is a computer that can convert from being a laptop to a tablet pc and back again at the swivel of my monitor.
Now theoretically this can be done using a mouse too, but I’m personally terrible at that
Ready for the fun part?
This is me writing in
digital ink
And yes I can do a
variety of colors if I want.
Not to mention highlighting
of course,
Doing too much
of all that can get excessive
but A little here and there
really adds a nice
personalized touch.
Especially for a blog or
other highly social
medium don’t you think?
So what does this really have to do with affiliate marketing you ask? Not much… or a lot… it all depends on how you’re approaching your business
It’s a well known fact that establishing trust on any website, or in any business, is easier to do if there’s some level of customer interaction and personalization involved. And once you’ve established solid trust with your readers, subscribers, visitors, or otherwise… you’ll usually notice an automatic increase in sales and income. Whether that’s affiliate commission income or direct doesn’t matter. Just establish trust and the hard part’s over.
In my opinion, doing something like hand writing part or all of your blog posts is one way to make a more solid connection with readers. There’s just something more personal and inviting about it overall.
I know for a fact I’m biased where pen input and handwriting recognition are concerned though, so what do you think?
The other reason I feel this post is relevant is because of a book I’ve been reading recently. It’s part of the Rich Dad Poor Dad series: "Rich Dad’s Retire Young, Retire Rich…" (I have the ebook edition)
In that book there’s a lot of talk about changing both your content and your context, and how these steps are needed to move forward with your personal and financial growth.
In my mind Ink Blogging is an excellent example of the concept. It’s not something you see often, and many people don’t even know it can be done. It’s new (to many) and it’s fun.
The same concepts can be applied to affiliate marketing. Just because everyone else sends thinly veiled spam in the guise of a "newsletter" for instance, doesn’t mean everyone else should follow suit. Change your content: what you give; Change your context: How you give it and/or see it - and you might just be surprised at the results you’ll get.
